LA County freeway closed after fiery crash

SOUTH EL MONTE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say 14 people have been injured in a fiery multi-vehicle crash that has shut down all lanes of a Los Angeles County freeway.

California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos says the accident early Thursday on State Route 60 involved a tanker truck that crossed over the center divider.

He says up to eight vehicles were involved in the crash in South El Monte, and at least two caught fire.

County fire dispatch supervisor Art Marrujo says 14 people are injured, three critically. The other 11 had minor injuries.

Villalobos says the truck carrying milk was traveling eastbound when it hit the divider and overturned, spilling fuel into lanes.

Milk was spilled into westbound lanes. All lanes are expected to remain closed in both directions for some time.

South El Monte is 15 miles east of Los Angeles.
