LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two Australian women won individual events at the Los Angeles Invitational on Saturday in a tuneup for next month's Pan Pacific Championships on the Gold Coast.
Olympian Kylie Palmer led a 1-2 Aussie finish in the 400-meter freestyle. She won in 4 minutes, 10.03 seconds, beating teammate Leah Neale, who touched in 4:10.87. Haley Anderson finished third in 4:11.96.
Aussie Jessica Hansen won the 200 breaststroke in 2:28.71. Andrea Kropp was second in 2:29.46.
Neale and Palmer teamed with Mikkayla Sheridan and Carla Buchanan to win the 800 freestyle relay in 8:04.40.
Olympian Nathan Adrian was the fastest qualifier for the 50 freestyle in 21.90 seconds. But he elected not to swim the evening final, clearing the way for a trio of lesser-known swimmers to make the podium. Seth Stubblefield won in 23.09 — well off Adrian's morning time. Joey Hale was second in 23.11 and Nick Soedel took third in 23.24. Olympian Matt Grevers finished eighth and last in 24.06.
