Friday, December 2, 12 p.m. - Sunday, December 11, 2016, 12 p.m.
TAR Repertory Theatre brings A Christmas Carol to life in the AVO Playhouse in Vista from December 2 to December 11. Performance dates and times are Fridays at 7 pm; Saturdays at 7 pm; and Sundays at 2 pm. “Bah! Humbug!” Based on one of Charles Dickens’ classic novels, A Christmas Carol follows Ebenezer Scrooge, a prosperous and selfish businessman, and his journeys to his past, present, and future life with three ghosts of Christmas. With music and lyrics by composer and lyricist Alan Menken and Lynn Ahrens respectively, audience members will listen to heartfelt musical numbers that will bring holiday cheer, such as “Christmas Together” and “A Place Called Home”. STAR Repertory director, Scott Kolod, states that “this production evokes that Christmas “feel which is often hard to get in Southern California”. Kolod “truly enjoyed casting this production, as virtually all actors are the age that they portray. The Alan Menken score has some hauntingly beautiful tunes that stay in your head for days.” Among the cast of 40 are a number of full families, giving local youth to perform alongside their parents. Among these are Peter McKinlay, a history teacher in Escondido, and his daughter, Ainsleigh, playing the roles of Bob Cratchit and Emily; Zack Webb and his family, playing various roles such as the Andersons and the Ghost of Christmas Past; and father and daughter Gerry and Carina Velona, playing the roles of Scrooge and Jonathan, respectively. STAR Repertory Theatre’s mission is to teach, develop, create, promote, and present compelling and impassioned works that bridge communities through entertaining artistry.
